No matter who you are, exercise can be an important part of your daily routine. And for people with multiple sclerosis (MS), yoga may be a gentle and effective form of exercise. Some research suggests that yoga may help people living with MS improve their mood and reduce fatigue, although more studies are needed to confirm these effects. These exercises may not be for everyone. Talk to your healthcare provider before beginning any exercise.

For many people, yoga is believed to have a range of benefits that may include:

  1. Increased strength Yoga educates you about where muscles are, and how to strengthen and stretch them
  2. Helping to reduce fatigue Yoga releases tension in the body and may give off more energy than it takes
  3. Improved coordination Yoga uses poses and breathing techniques to help your mind and body work together
  4. Increased confidence and calmness Yoga teaches different relaxation techniques to help you reduce stress
  5. Improved balance Yoga emphasizes alignment, which benefits posture and balance

Always remember to talk to your doctor before doing yoga. He or she can help you determine your fitness level and your overall health, so you can find a class that is right for you.
